This spring not only saw the birth of my Little Muffin Lady ER, but also a Limited Edition collection by baby gear power house Baby Bjorn. The ‘Ice Cream Collection’ was a mouthwateringly gorgeous pastel hued makeover of some of the brand’s most popular products in gorgeous shades of soft pink, pale blue, lilac and mint. I was lucky enough to be gifted their popular Carrier One to try out, perfect timing with such a little one and places to go, people to see.
Now, I have to be honest here, I thought – while I was nuts about the colour – I would give this carrier a mediocre thumbs down. I had an old model, a hand-me-down, when I had MG, which not only left my back very sore, but also raised red flags for concerns over his hips. It was fantastic, however, for being easy to put on in a hurry, particularly when we were out and about, and, unlike my other slings (all soft with lots of fabric to wrap), my husband would wear the carrier too. BUT…
…Baby Bjorn have done a lot to address the concerns over its carriers and hip dyplasia, as well as improving the ergonomic design to nail lumbar support for the wearers. This means, the carrier one, quite frankly, is awesome! 1. It’s good for me 2. It’s good for baby 3. It’s good for Daddy 4. It’s machine washable. Win, win, win, win!
I have worn the carrier for as long as 2 hours (in a garden centre) and not felt a thing…not one ache and Lady ER is in the 98th percentile (a big baby!). The addition of the waist belt, distributes baby girl’s weight across my back and hips. It’s perfect when we’re on the run, as I don’t have trails of fabric dragging across the car park floor. I can easily slide her into the carrier, and most importantly slide her back into her car seat when she’s fallen asleep.
Lady ER loves the carrier, particularly to sleep in. It has four carrying positions, at the moment she’s just moving from the newborn (a higher setting for small bodies) to the regular level. She can face me in two positions, then face forward and lastly go onto my back when she’s older. Most importantly, babies sit in these in the right ‘Letter M’ position, so there is no need to worry about their little hips being damaged. Just in case, you are still worrying, the Baby Bjorn Carrier One is acknowledged as a hip-healthy baby carrier by the International Hip Dyplasia Institute.
Dads can often feel left out of all the whole baby wearing magic, particularly if the mum likes wearing softer more complicated to wrap Moby slings like me. That’s been the unexpected bonus of this carrier, my husband loves wearing it. It’s so quick and easy for him to put on, he feels empowered to carry Lady ER without my help.
This being a light pink baby carrier in a house with a toddler and baby suffering acid reflux has meant this carrier has dirtied up pretty quickly. Never mind, it’s machine washable and that, as you know, seals the deal.
So, hear it is Baby Bjorn, my public apology – my bad – I was wrong – you guys rock!
