New Year, new season. You survived Christmas with the kids, dry January or whatever other punishing resolutions you set yourself, I think you deserve a fashion break. It’s SS16 and we are officially in ‘The future’, but what a delightful style season it is. I’ve narrowed down the SS16 fashion trends to the top five I think translate best into mama wear; slips, bomber jackets, brights, ruffles and graphic stripes.
As I always say, style doesn’t end with mummy hood and there’s no reason you can’t get involved in the fashion trends too.
So, here are my favourite SS16 trend essentials for stylish mums after nine. I’ve picked each item not only for its style prowess, but because it also works with a mum issue e.g. pregnancy bump, wider hips, mum tum, bingo wings, the need to nurse discreetly and be on the go. This is all about injecting your wardrobe, whether you’re a mum to be, stay at home mum, working mum or just after a little something special to make your school run style a bit more special.
SLIPS
This may seem totally non mum friendly, I mean talk about boob exposure. If, like me, you’ve got funky post-baby boobs, just make like it’s 1994 and layer up your cami or even slip dress over your t-shirt. I LOVE this look, as I rocked it the first time around as a 90s teenager. A cami is a great way to give your breastfeeding look some POW and a slip dress is a savvy choice for pregnant mums who have got to the stage when all they can wear are dresses.
RUFFLES
Frou frou frills will hide even the most in your face of mum tums, making it the perfect choice for mums with lovely lumps. However, stick to wearing them on your top half or around the hem only to avoid them making you look wider. There’s also a lot shoulder and tummy baring with this look. So, layer up or wear high waisted bottoms for more coverage.

GRAPHIC STRIPES
If you read my post last week on striped shirtdresses you’d know I’m a huge fan of stripy things. This trend is universally chic and versatile for whatever stage of motherhood you’re at, as a big bold pattern is the easiest way to transform a look.

BRIGHTS
Against a drab background of London rain and clouds, I the colour lover will never turn down the opportunity to brighten up my look with bold colours. The key is colour blocking and going for it, outerwear and accessories are a great starting point.

BOMBER JACKETS
Bomber jackets are nothing new on the fashion scene, in fact I’d say they’re a staple every style lover should have at least one of. What’s new this season? Embroidery, embellishment, patches and all around fun stuff, which will make your buy extra special. Wearing it as a cardigan or spring outerwear, for the office or play date…they’re super simple to throw on, but will make a huge difference.
