There’s something about denim that goes hand in hand with maternity wardrobes, much like breton stripes and boho prints. I mean, sporting a pair of denim dungarees is a pregnancy right of passage.
5 months into my second pregnancy, I’ve pretty much maxed out 75% of my normal wardrobe and am trying to get that last wear out of some of my favourite pieces while I can. Last week, I said goodbye – for now – to my favourite Isaac Mizhari denim shirt, pairing it with my H&M maternity jeans for a dose of double denim.
You see for me, doubling up your denim means doubling up the style factor, without much effort. Last week was a struggle in MG’s world, picture toddler tantrums, baby regression and little Mr. Independent all rolled up in one. So, I really struggled to summon up the strength to get out of my dressing gown most days, let alone let it rip with leopard print a la country girl (note in the picture above, I didn’t make it to the make-up stage). Layering up the denim, despite what the nay sayers proclaim, is cool and a great style solution for expectant mums in a fashion rut.

Now to take it up a notch and go full on double denim duty for chic pregnancy style. Don’t be afraid to mix it up, dark denim with light, ripped and acid wash, all finished up with denim-like accessories. While the divinely blouson denim kimono isn’t officially ‘maternity’ all the other garments on my shopping list are from their store’s maternity range.
